Storm Girls - Tournament News

U11 STORM GIRLS ENJOY SUCCESS AT MIST TOURNAMENT [July 24, 2010]

The Storm Thunder started with a bang with a 6-0 shutout win against Portland FC. Our mighty defence, composed of Amanda, Ayli, Laura and Sheena, decided early that none shall go through their hermetic watch. The opponents' attempts were no match for their speed and ball control. Intrusion attempts were quickly turned into counter attacks which were, to say the least, fruitful.

The second game against West Ottawa (Kanata) proved to be a bigger challenge. Kenzie put in the team's second unanswered goal midway through the second half. It was a pretty one, which is the kind she prefers. Things were looking good with 6 minutes to go when an unfortunate handball in the penalty area provided West Ottawa with a PK that they converted into a goal. Then, with mere seconds left in the game, the opponents tied it, forcing a penalty kick duel to split the points. Sierra, Kyra and Kenzie (her again!) made the mesh move with unstoppable kicks. Ciera, our fearless goalie, stopped the last two kicks and the whole coach-stressing event ended with 3 goals apiece.

The girls were getting tired after a day of running in the sun. Next up was Kemptville, which had proved to be a worthy opponent against the Storm Blizzard. The girls started the game with some apprehension which was accentuated when Kemptville put in a goal after the fourth minute. Claudia, one of our three captains along with Athena and Kyra, decided that she would have none of it. She led the team into what will be remembered as their finest half-hour, scoring two goals in one shift. She then scored another goal in her next shift, just to make sure everyone understood where she was taking them. The team came together, with trepidation turning into determination. Larissa, with the grace of a Sherman tank, burst through the defence and blasted one past the stunned Kemptville goalie. Emma put the final nail in the coffin by turning on the afterburners on the right flank to rendez-vous with a beautiful through ball that she put behind the goalie with surgical precision. Never so proud a coach has strode the green pitches of Beckwith Park.

So then, with 7.5 points in hand, the Storm Thunder had their ticket to the medal round on Sunday. Our first opponent was Cumberland, which had gone undefeated in the round robin. Perhaps still feeling the adrenaline of their last win, Sierra, Larissa and Sabrina made a YouTube-worthy pass combination to finally find Hunter who put the ball in the net with, get this, only 31 seconds into the game! A new team record to be sure. The spectators' and opponents' head were left spinning. Cumberland, however, wasn't going to make it easy. This was a semi-final game after all. With a great sense of temporal symmetry, they scored at the very end of the first half. To add insult to injury, they scored again within two minutes of the start of the second half. Our aforementioned defence and keeper then went into shutdown mode, Sabrina tied the game and Emma put it away. I think they'd had enough and wanted to go for ice cream.

For the final match, the team played valiantly against Kemptville, who now had something to prove. Despite some beautiful plays and numerous scoring chances, our girls could not beat the Kemptville goalie who played a solid match. The girls never gave up, pressing hard until the final whistle to earn their silver medal. They walked away with their heads held high to the applause of their proud coaches and families.

U13 Storm Girls Win 2010 Snakebite Gold! [July 10, 2010]

Congratulations to the U13 Storm Girls who won Gold at this year's Snakebite Tournament, defeating Kanata Lightning 2-0 in the final!

The solid efforts by Alana, Haley, Sara, Chelsea, Sierra, Michelle, Melissa, Lauren, Sophia, Marilyn, Naomi, Sophie, Shannon, Lindsay, Callie, Elizabeth, Caitlin, and Jade made for exciting and entertaining games.

The team competed well with only 12 players on Saturday, earning a 0-0 draw vs the Kanata Lightning Level 4 team, and losing a close 0-1 game vs Ottawa Internationals.
With reinforcements arriving to bolster the ranks on Sunday, the team went on a winning streak. They played a close first match against Glengarry, winning 1-0. Despite going a goal down during their second game, the girls showed resilience and continued to play our team's game. They "stormed" back with 3 unanswered goals in the second half to stun Sudbury 3-1. The win set up the team for the Gold medal match - their best match of the tournament. The girls confidently took control right away, scoring an early goal at the beginning of the first half. They sustained the pressure on their opponents for the rest of the game, scoring an insurance goal to secure first place. Thank you, girls, for an outstanding weekend of soccer, and for exhibiting good sportsmanship and Fair Play throughout the tournament!

Mike, head coach, on behalf of the U13's, thanks the coaching staff of Murray, Bruce, and Wendy for their work motivating and encouraging the girls, and for preparing the team prior to playing. Thank you to Kirsten, our team manager/trainer, for setting us up in the tournament, keeping us on track, and supporting the players. And thank you to the parents and Storm fans for lending helping hands and cheering on the team!

Go Storm!

U11G STORM CELEBRATE SUCCESSFUL SEASON [September 16, 2009]
The U11G D1 team have just completed a very successful season finishing as finalists in the Shield tournament on Sunday September 13 with a heart-betaking 0-1 defeat. We held the play for most of the game but were not rewarded with a win. The girls also participated in the Kicking in the Capital tournament playing up a division and ended up winning against Carleton Place 2-1 in the quarter finals and finally succumbing to fatigue in a 0-2 loss to a very strong Ottawa International Squad. The girls showed a lot of heart competing in 6 games on the weekend and they have made everyone proud. This caps off a great run in the regular season placing third, only one point behind the league champions.

A special thanks goes out to the parents, fans and coaches who came out to show support for the girls at the shield game. This was a special season for which we will all remember the games, events and friendships that made our team strong during the season. We now move to the winter season with two Futsal teams and will be hoping to see and cheer on our Storm peers in the gyms and pitches around the city. Go Storm Go.

U10 Girls take MIST by STORM  [July 23, 2009]
We are pleased to report that both U10G Storm teams, Storm Green and Storm White, made the finals in the MIST 2009 tournament.  The teams were seeded into separate pools for the round robin play.  White went 2 - 1, winning one game in regular time, and one game in a tie-breaker shootout, finishing 2nd in their pool and advancing to the medals round. Green went 2 - 1,  winning both games in regular time, landing in a 3 way tie for 1st place in their pool, and coming out in 1st place on goal differential, to also advance to the medals round.

The first game in the medal round found Storm White playing Storm Green. After a friendly, but hard fought game, Storm Green advanced to the final, while Storm White advanced to the Bronze medal round.
Storm White tied West Carleton at 0-0 in regular time, but suffered a heartbreaking loss in the 2nd round of shootouts, to finish in 4th place overall. Storm Girls’ U16 Regional Team Tournament Finalists at Gloucester International Soccer Tournament [Aug 11, 2008]

The Nepean City Storm Girls’ Under 16 Regional team was the Tournament Finalists in the G.I.S.T. Under 18 Division for 2008 losing to the Pembroke Posse 1-0 during the championship game. This tournament result adds to the team’s 3rd place finish at a tournament in Clarence, New York, several weeks early.

This time around, the team’s short bench was bolstered by solid contributions from Rachel Edwards and Brenda Li, both of whom play for the Storm GU14 Regional team and Amy Best, from the Storm GU18 Premier team. After an initial 3-0 defeat to the Gloucester Hornets Under 16 Regional team, the Storm rallied and was triumphant over the Gatineau Blitz U18 (3-0) and the Gatineau Shamrocks U18 (2-0). Storm Keeper, Jess Haskins, had to pull herself from the Shamrocks game with a recurring injury to her thigh. Fullback, Ellie Goldney, willingly put on the gloves and helped secure the shut out win even though she herself was nursing a leg injury.

In the semi-final game, with Ellie again in nets, the Storm met up again with their arch rivals, the Hornets, in the semi-final game. The goals were back and forth during the game leaving the teams tied at 2-2 going into golden goal overtime. As the second overtime period was drawing to a close and a shoot out looming, the ball went to Midfielder Rachel Henry, a newcomer to the team this year, who lofted the ball into the net over the Gloucester keeper with seconds remaining on the clock.

For the final game, the team went up against the Pembroke Posse, a very physical and aggressive U18 team, who were undefeated during the tournament. With no substitutions left on the bench, an injured substitute keeper and other players nursing various injuries, the Storm did their best to keep the Posse at bay. Finally, the Posse broke through the Storm defence to secure a goal. A long ball blast from Storm Striker Barbara Lugg almost found its way home had it not been for the acrobatic goal-keeping of the Pembroke net minder. The close final score is a testament to the depth, determination, and competitive spirit of the Storm girls.

Congratulations on a job well done to Rachel Edwards, Brenda Li, Amy Best, Jess Haskins, Ellie Goldney, Grace DiCesare, Gabby Dupuis, Shalini Gunawardhane, Rachel Weekes, Jennifer Potvin, Megan Lugg, Katie Neville, Kayla DiNardo, Kaeleigh Hanlon, and Barbara Lugg. Barb was awarded team MVP for her exceptional contribution to the Storm offence all week-end long. Many thanks to the Storm parents and family members for their cheering and unwavering support.

Go Storm Go!!!

The U13G1 Storm Team won all their Preliminary Round, Quarter and Semi-Final Games and received their Silver Finalists Trophies after a very close and hard fought 1-0 Final, having conceded only 2 goals in the entire Tournament!

Congratulations for their usual FAIR PLAY, skilled and determined performances to Lauren Armstrong, Cassie Barber, Maggie Brennan, Meghan Brennan, Madison Erbach, Haroula Giovanopoulos, Meghan Hemond, Mikhaila Johnson, Emily Lefebvre, Anjali Periyalwar, Morgan Powers, Danielle Sarrazin, Missy Schutten, Nicole Shaver, Christina Sourges, Nicola Stirling, Jenna Stirling and Zoe Todd.

Many thanks to Joanne Erbach, our Manager, for keeping, once again, everything running smoothly for the Team. We would also like to thank Andrew Shaver, Bessie Giovanopoulos, Tracey Stirling and Suresh Periyalwar for all their help.  Our gratitude, again, to the Players’ ...FAN CLUB entourage for their continual help and, as always, sportsmanlike support, acknowledging FAIR PLAY and great athleticism on not only Storm Players but to the other competing Teams as well.

Sotiris Giovanopoulos, Coach U13G1 Storm

The U-13 Regional girls played up an age group and dominated the round robin phase of the competition, out-scoring opponents 11-0 and playing some lovely attacking football in the process. The girls played a very exciting and demanding semi-final against the host club, triumphing in a penalty kick shoot-out. Sadly, the exertions of the weekend caught up with our little warriors in the final against a strong Pegusus side and after falling behind by a goal, the Strom girls were unable to crack the opponents 8-1-1 formation. However, with the emphasis being on having fun and some tactical experimentation, the coaches were very pleased with the performances. Congratulations again to Danika, Vanessa, Lisa, Julia S, Julia L, Kat, Sarah, Erin, Laura, Brenda, Rachel, Fatima, Tara, Ashley, Caroline, Brigid and Kaileigh.

NEPEAN CITY U-12 PREMIER GIRLS COMPLETE THE PERFECT SEASON  [September 17, 2006]

The U-12 girls had an inkling that this was going to be a special season when they won the silver in the spring Ice-Breaker at the Regional level of competition. By the end of July, they had already won the Premier league, with four games still to play. Four games later, the side had amassed a record of 14 and 0, scoring 66 goals and conceding only 4, including 11 shut-outs. At the Ottawa Royals tournament on September 9 and 10, the girls rattled off five more wins, out-scoring opponents 13-0, en-route to their second consecutive gold at this event. In their previous 21 games, the team has conceded only 3 goals, highlighting the girls' commitment to excellence in both their game play and their training sessions. It is tremendously rewarding to see that all the grueling hard work the girls have put in - in the winter gym and spring and summer practices - has really paid off. BRAVO AGAIN GIRLS! Congratulations to Danika, Erin, Laura, Ashley, Tara, Sarah, Brenda, Brigid, Caroline, Fatima, Hannah, Meaghan, Katya, Kaileigh and Lisa. The squad is registered in the winter Coliseum league at the U-14 level and will soon be commencing their winter training program, in preparation for playing at the ERSL Regional level in 2007.

Nepean City U14 GP Takes Kingston by Storm (July 10, 2006)

This past weekend (July 8,9) the City of Kingston witnessed a STORM of major proportions as the Nepean City Storm U14 girls premiere team captured the Ambassador Cup.
During the tournament, coaches, parents and opposing teams witnessed the Storm deliver very disciplined, strategic and skilful soccer. They fought hard for every ball, played their positions, communicated, supported and encouraged each other. In each game they never lost sight of their goal. They played as a Team and they won as a Team. The coaching staff couldn't have asked for more and they couldn't be more proud of their team's accomplishments.

Congratulations to:

Aly, Jennifer, Ellie, Grace, Kayla, Rachel, Megan, Barb, Shelby, Gabby, Mel, Kaeleigh, Kristina, Erika, Fiona, Courtney, Carolyn and Bobbie. GO STORM GO!

U13G STORM Capture Gold and Silver [Summer 2005]
The NCSC U13 Girls Premier team ended their summer season on a high note taking Silver at the Ottawa Royal’s Tournament last weekend. The championship game against the Ottawa Internationals was a hard fought contest where many thought the game would go into overtime when an unlucky goal in the final minutes of the game put the Internationals ahead. The determination and the skill portrayed by our players was impressive and the Storm girls are to be congratulated on a weekend of well executed soccer despite being down several team members.

The NCSC U13 Girls Premier team also took home the Gold at the King’s Sports Tournament in late August in Pembroke. The girls played strong and consistent soccer going undefeated in round robin play before capturing the Gold against Carleton Place in the championship game.

U11G STORM GO SILVER IN PEMBROKE
Report by: Willie Scorralot.
August 20 – 21 – 2005 Pembroke

Armed with water, sunscreen, pop and masses of junk food, the Nepean Storm took on the competition, swam, laughed, ate pizza and played one of the most annoying games of hide-and-seek ever witnessed.

The girls played the first four games with tremendous energy, out scoring the opposition 11 -1 on the way to four consecutive victories.  The soccer was fast and entertaining, but the warm weather eventually took its toll and the girls were unable to break through a staunch Carleton Place defence in the late Sunday afternoon final.

No gold medal this time, but the performances were excellent.

The NCSC U11PB won the Championship by winning all their games against strong teams, in the King Sport Tournament n in Pembroke. The determination and the skills portrayed by the players were impressive. In fact, we received nice compliments from the two coaches and the organizers about the clean and technical game of the players. All the players reached a new level of confidence and their happiness is priceless. I would like to thank Mr. Foti for his presence and support during the hard “FOUGHT” final game against Kanata U11P Boys team.
Coach Ali Guvenc

The U15G Soccer Team had a very successful tournament in Pembroke last weekend winning Gold! They were undefeated through the round robin with wins over Carleton Place, Ottawa Internationals and a tie with Belleville. They defeated Cumberland in the Semi-Final and won a heart wrenching final game against their arch-rivals, Carleton Place, in a shootout. Gib and I are extremely proud of the TEAM effort that they displayed throughout the tournament.
